Paul´s music has this perfect balance between melancholy and beauty, or, to put it better, he never lets himself fall on melancholy (or even angst?) because his vibe will lead itself to a beautiful hopeful state, chilling you over the layers of those deep ambiances. Watching him perform live was great, his music really infiltrates in you + he was the perfect reminder of how can one miss some fine music out there.

Tlaotlon - 2012 Highlights

It’s a been a weird (good weird) year for me. I moved countries, from NZ to AUS, and spent about 5 months travelling in Europe.

Of course a big highlight was getting some of my records released by Trensmat and Dungeon Taxis.

I’m pretty out of touch with lots of other records that have come out this year - no time, space or money to check much stuff out…..

However, releases from these artists make up a significant part of my ‘Want!’ list : Matt Carlson, Florian Hecker, Lorenzo Senni, Keith Whitman, Mark Fell, Richard Youngs, Jason Lescalleet, Hieroglyphic Being, Tomutonttu, Bee Mask, Eric Lanham, Head Boggle, Nhk’koyxeи, Lee Gamble, Wolfgang Voigt…..

A lot of whom are represented by these great labels : PAN, Dekorder, Presto!?, NNA , Alter, Editions Mego and all their related labels - Spectrum Spools, Sensate Focus, Recollection GRM.

I really enjoyed the Maryanne Amacher ‘Intelligent Life’ exhibition at Daad Gallery, Berlin, and the ‘Living Water - Contemporary Art of the Far Western Desert’ exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.

I’m looking forward to some new releases in 2013, starting with a 7” on Jan Anderzen’s VAUVA label.

And I’m enjoying working on some visual stuff which will probably accompany live shows and releases.

And I’m hopefully going to do a bunch of Tlaotlon shows in Australia, New Zealand and Europe, maybe elsewhere……□
